Expressing

Oh the life of a nursing mother!

I had two lovely conversations with women about the joys of nursing today while I was cleaning my pump. Yesterday I had a conversation with a woman that had nursed one child and used formula for the other. The room currently used for lactation is a locker room off of a restroom. There is a shower in there, a bench, and lockers.
It can be kind of stressful to use the room because of all the different manufacturing shift/break schedules. Not to mention other mothers needing to use the room. I asked the manufacturing manager for their schedule and I guess he talked to my boss. K and M came back saying they would use a small office in our finance area as a lactation room. They said they would make it available, install a lock and install privacy glass. Today I asked for the schedule again so I could figure out my last pump of the day, just to use until they figured out the room. I had just finished pumping in the locker room when our HR woman came in to take a look. She said in minutes of them putting paper up over the windows in the office people complained to her. She said the lockers were never meant for personal use and they were thinking of changing the locker room to lactation only. They said it would make use of it easier and they would make it more accomodating, by Tues.

The locker room really is ideal if retrofitted because it is off the restroom. Although one could argue how handy is a public restroom sink for washing your babies feeding instruments. (I think time to buy a microwave sterilizer)

Of course M came down to take the paper off the windows and people are snickering and whispering. I didn't ask for the office but of course people will be what they will be.

Sigh. I hope returning to work is easier next week
